The Chair of Economic and Business Education at the University of Mannheim (Prof. Aprea) and the Chair of Public Finance at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena (Prof. Übelmesser) are organizing a conference to bring together researchers from business education and economics as well as related disciplines, who work on topics related to old-age provision. The conference is part of the project “Verständnis und Haltungen zur Altersvorsorge in Deutschland (VHAlt)” (www.vhalt.de), which focuses on understanding and attitudes towards old-age provision in Germany and their impact on behaviour. It is funded by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.

We welcome theoretical and empirical contributions that address (but are not limited to) the following topics:

  • Knowledge/understanding of pension systems and old-age provision
  • Attitudes towards old-age provision
  • Behaviour related to old-age provision (e.g., saving or investing)
  • Reforms of pension systems

The keynote lectures will be delivered by:

  • Axel Börsch-Supan (Technical University Munich, Munich Center for the Economics of Aging)
  • Elsa Fornero (University of Turin)
  • David Leiser (Ben Gurion University of the Negev)

The conference intends to give researchers from different disciplines the opportunity to present and discuss their current research on the first day. The second day is devoted to the discussion of implications of the VHAlt project for policy and practice.

We plan to hold the conference on-site, but will switch to an online format if necessary. Participants will need to cover their travel expenses and accommodation. There will be no participation fee.

Interested authors should send their full papers or extended abstracts as PDF files to info@vhalt.de no later than October 1, 2022 (extended). Authors of accepted papers will be notified no later than October 15, 2022. The primary conference language is English (parts of the second day will be in German).

Updated information will appear on this website, available at https://vhalt.de/conference/ or send an email to info@vhalt.de.

Please note: There is an opportunity to participate in the MIFE conference, which will take place in Mannheim, November 16-18. See https://www.uni-mannheim.de/mife/ for more information.
